Variety is the spice of fitness.
When you work out in the same room in the same way every day for a long time, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get into a rut. The good news is that there are little ways you can switch up your routine to give yourself some variation.
First, a question: how do you feel about your current workout? Does it feel more like a chore than something enriching? Take a second to reexamine your priorities. Why are you exercising? Are you trying to lose weight? Keep yourself busy? Build muscle? If your current reason isn’t motivating you, find a new one. Also, if you find yourself getting bored halfway through your routine, make it shorter, yet higher-impact. Condense, baby!
So how can we switch things up? Chances are you’ve designated a single room of your home as your workout space. If you have other rooms at your disposal, try moving your workout space elsewhere. A change of scenery can do wonders for your motivation. If your workout gear is the problem, try something new! A new machine or some new weights could give you a change in perspective. Are there any techniques you’re not good at or muscle areas you don’t usually work? Push yourself! Dedicate some time to learning some new exercising skills and develop yourself in a different direction.
It could be said that the whole point of physical fitness is to adapt yourself to strenuous circumstances. Well, these are some pretty strenuous circumstances right now, so instead of sitting there moping, start adapting!
