Time spent enjoying yourself is never time wasted.
Time is a very precious commodity, of this there can be no doubt. But there’s a bit of a misunderstanding that often accompanies that notion: because time is so precious, you need to use every last nanosecond of it toward bettering yourself. Exercising, working, making money; if you’re not doing these things, you’re wasting time. That, sire, is a total load.
As important as it is to better yourself and secure your livelihood and all that jazz, it is equally important to ensure that you’re happy every day. Your happiness, your emotional well-being, is a paramount factor in your life, or at least it should be. After all, what are you doing all that work for if not to secure peace of mind for yourself? To quote a certain vampire, the one thing all humans instinctively seek is peace of mind.
If working, exercising, and whatnot are what make you genuinely happy, then that’s great! You’re one of the lucky few who get to spend your whole day doing something you love. For the rest of us, though, making money and self-improvement can be very exhausting, both physically and emotionally. We need to refuel on positivity, or we’ll drive ourselves into the dirt. It’s not just okay to take a break for some personal time, it’s downright mandatory.
So when you’re exhausted from the day, don’t guilt yourself into getting right back to work. Watch a movie, eat a little junk food, do something silly that makes you happy. As long as it puts a smile on your face, it’s time well spent.
