The most important meal for the most important organ.
Heart disease is one of the most enduring plagues of the modern age. In the United States alone, approximately 647,000 people die every year from heart disease, and that’s about a quarter of the country’s total death count. It’s more important than ever to eat food that’ll keep your heart healthy, and no meal is more important than breakfast. You might think you don’t have enough time in the day to eat a heart-healthy breakfast, but there are actually quite a few quick and filing options that’ll give you just what you need.
If you want something hearty, try a grain bowl. No, I don’t meal cereal or oatmeal, I mean proper, unprocessed grains. A bowl of quinoa or brown rice, mixed with some beans, tofu, and/or hard boiled egg slices is a great start to your day. It’s even better if you add some spinach or avocado.
Speaking of avocado, if you want the fastest possible choice, just layer some fresh avocado on a couple of slices of all-natural whole grain bread. Quick, tasty, and filling, and if you want some extra protein, add an egg.
If you’re more in the market for a beverage, try a blueberry smoothie. Blueberries are one of the most heart-healthy fruits according to the American Heart Association. A cup a day is proven to improve your vascular functions. Just blend up some blueberries, banana, spinach, Greek yogurt, nut butter, and either milk or water in the blender. Deliciously fruity and portable to boot!
